Django Fellow @ Django

12 Jun, 2025
selected by Aidas Bendoraitis

The Django Software Foundation is seeking applicants for a new Django Fellow — a paid, full-time contractor position focused on maintaining the Django framework. This fellowship, first established in 2014, ensures consistent and high-quality support for the framework and its community. The new Fellow will join current Fellows Natalia Bidart and Sarah Boyce, with the position funded initially for one year and potentially renewable based on fundraising outcomes.

The Django Fellow plays a vital technical and community-facing role. In addition to responsibilities like managing releases, fixing security issues, triaging tickets, and supporting contributors, the Fellow also acts as a public representative of Django. This includes speaking at conferences, leading sprints, mentoring contributors, and fostering the project’s inclusive culture. Strong communication, mentorship, and collaboration skills are essential alongside technical expertise.

Applicants should have solid experience in Python, Django, and related technologies, but an eagerness to learn and a track record of doing so are valued more than exhaustive knowledge. Open source contributions, especially to Django, are highly regarded, though not mandatory. The position pays $82.26/hour and is open globally, with preference for time zones overlapping with current Fellows (-8 to +3 UTC). Applications, including experience details and at least one recommendation, are open until July 1, 2025.
